Some questions examined views on factors affecting safety and security. This survey round also included questions about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Opinions were charted on the success of foreign policy in the previous few years, funds allocated to the Defence Forces, whether Finland should resort to armed defence in case of any sort of attack, whether the respondents would be prepared to participate in national defence according to their abilities, and how the global security situation would develop in the next five years. Views were probed on the current, conscription-based defence system. Satisfaction with defence policy in the previous few years was also investigated. The respondents were asked to evaluate the impact of several countries and organisations, such as Russia, China, US, UN, NATO and EU, on Finland's security. Views on how the military situation in nearby regions would develop during the next decade were also examined. The respondents were asked whether their trust in the future of the European Union had weakened, strengthened or stayed the same. Additionally, the respondents' trust in the ability of the Finnish Defence Forces to defend Finland against military threats was examined. Views were probed on how diplomacy, EU defence cooperation, EU defence industrial collaboration, international crisis management, and Nordic defence cooperation contributed to Finland's security alongside NATO membership. Next, concerns caused by certain phenomena and issues were charted, such as withdrawals from arms controls agreements, climate change, various infectious diseases and epidemics, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, organised crime, international terrorism, inflation, cyberthreats, development of artificial intelligence, political extremism, racism and current developments in Russia, the US, the Middle East and the Baltic Sea regions. On the topic of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the respondents were asked whether the EU and its member states should continue to offer military and financial support to Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia. The respondents were also asked whether other NATO states should be ready to defend Finland in case of an armed attack on Finland and whether Finland should be prepared to defend other NATO states in case of an armed attack on another NATO state. Finally, the respondents were asked about Finnish society's preparedness for crises, their own capacity to cope in such situations, and whether they believed the United States would defend Finland or other European countries under NATO obligations. Kesänviettoon liittyvät kysymykset kohdistuivat erityisesti 15-29-vuotiaisiin ja koskivat muun muassa kesäloman pituutta, lomalla tehtyjä aktiviteetteja sekä kesän hyvinvointivaikutuksia. Kesätöitä koskevassa osiossa kartoitettiin esimerkiksi työnhakua, työkokemusten laatua, töiden kestoa sekä syitä siihen, miksi kesätöitä ei haettu. Seuraavaksi selvitettiin, kuinka usein vastaajat esimerkiksi lukevat, pelaavat, seuraavat mediaa ja käyttävät erilaisia sosiaalisen median kanavia. Lisäksi kysyttiin sosiaalisessa mediassa koetuista ja havaituista ilmiöistä, kuten vertailemisesta, uusien kavereiden löytämisestä sekä epämiellyttävistä tai haitallisista kokemuksista. In addition to leisure time activities, the main themes of this year's survey were summer activities and social media use. First, respondents were asked how often they engage in various leisure activities, such as sports, arts, and cultural activities, spend time in different leisure settings, listen to music, and participate in associations. The survey also explored satisfaction with different areas of life, as well as experiences of stress and feelings of belonging. Questions related to summer activities focused particularly on 15- to 29-year-olds and covered topics such as the length of summer holiday, activities done during the holiday, and wellbeing. The section on summer employment examined, for example, job seeking, work experiences, the duration of employment, and the reasons for not seeking summer jobs. Next, the study examined how often respondents, for example, read, play games, follow the media, and use various social media platforms. In addition, respondents were asked about their experiences related to social media, such as social comparison and negative or harmful encounters. Respondents under the age of 18 were also asked about their guardians' supervision of social media use and restrictions on phone use. Finally, young people's views on restricting smartphone use in primary and lower secondary schools were explored. Demokratiaa koskevissa kysymyksissä tiedusteltiin mielipiteitä kansalaisten osallistumismahdollisuuksia vahvistavista toimenpiteistä sekä eri yhteiskunnallisten ryhmien vaikutusmahdollisuuksista Suomen tulevaisuuden kehitykseen. Palveluja koskevassa osiossa käsiteltiin näkemyksiä siitä, miten keskeisiä peruspalveluita ja hyödykkeitä tulisi tarjota ja rahoittaa tulevaisuudessa. Seuraavaksi kartoitettiin näkemyksiä kulutuksesta seuraavan kymmenen vuoden aikana liittyen esimerkiksi luonnonvarojen kulutuksen ja päästöjen rajoittamiseen sekä rajoittamisen keinoihin. Lopuksi kyselyssä toteutettiin valintakoeasetelma (discrete choice experiment), jossa vastaajille esitettiin kahdeksasta valintatilanteesta neljä. Heidän tuli valita kahden vaihtoehtoisen tulevaisuuskuvan välillä mielestään parempi vaihtoehto. Vaihtoehdot olivat hahmotelmia suomalaisen yhteiskunnan tulevista kehityskuluista liittyen talouteen, tuloeroihin, ympäristön tilaan ja päätöksenteon demokraattisuuteen. The survey was collected as part of the research project Towards EcoWelfare State (ORSI). First, respondents were asked about their views on what the state and municipalities should do over the next ten years to reduce emissions from transport and housing, as well as to ensure work and livelihoods. The section on democracy explored opinions on measures aimed at strengthening citizen participation and the influence of different societal groups on Finland's future development. The section on public services addressed views on how key basic services and goods should be provided and funded in the future. Next, the survey charted expectations about consumption over the next ten years, including opinions on limiting the use of natural resources and emissions. Finally, the survey included a discrete choice experiment in which respondents were presented with four of eight choice sets. In each set, they were asked to choose between two alternative future scenarios. The scenarios described potential developments in Finnish society concerning the economy, income inequality, the state of the environment, and the democratic quality of decision-making. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, native language, region, level of education, economic activity, type of accommodation, housing tenure, household size, number of children living in the household, political party preference, and mode of travel in everyday The data was originally collected for a master's thesis that examined the experiences of women living with PCOS regarding the stigma associated with womanhood. The invitation to write asked participants to share their personal experiences related to the condition and to reflect on the situations in which they had experienced stigma directed at women due to their PCOS symptoms. Respondents were also asked to consider what had caused the stigma in that particular situation, how they reacted to it, and how they would have liked others to react. People were welcome to respond even if they did not have a PCOS diagnosis or if their gender identity was other than female. The call for submissions also provided some guiding questions to assist with the responses. The project also collected the CoLaGe corpus, which has been archived in the Language Bank of Finland (for further information, see 'Other Material”). The PsyCoLaGe data can be used to examine, for example, various research questions related to gender, gender roles and gender stereotypes, and it can additionally be used together with the corpus. The data were used to examine respondents' attitudes and perceptions primarily regarding gender and partly sexuality. This was carried out using various instruments measuring psychological characteristics, which assessed, for example, respondents' views on gender role ideologies, attitudes towards gay men, behaviour-based gender role self-concept, and perceptions of the relationship between voice characteristics and gender. The modes of measurement varied. Respondents were asked, for example, to evaluate whether the sentences presented in the questionnaire were uttered by women or men, whether certain voice or personality traits were typical of women, men or both genders, and whether they agreed or disagreed with statements concerning gender. The variable labels in the archived dataset include information on which instrument measuring psychological characteristics each variable belongs to. Some value labels of the variables include annotations indicating whether the voice features, sentences, and descriptions of everyday tasks presented to respondents are female‑typical or male‑typical, and whether the presented statement is egalitarian or traditional. These annotations are based on the instruments used to measure psychological characteristics. The questions were presented to respondents either in Peninsular Spanish or Mexican Spanish depending on their nationality, not in English. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, millaista häirintää he ovat kokeneet, missä paikoissa ja miltä tahoilta. Lisäksi selvitettiin häirinnästä ilmoittamista sekä tyytyväisyyttä ilmoituksiin reagointiin. First, respondents were asked about their observations and experiences of hate speech targeting LGBTQ+ people. The survey also examined how hostility appears in different environments, such as the media, and interpersonal interactions. In addition, it was examined whether hostile statements have increased and from which sources respondents have observed hate speech in public contexts. The next section focused on respondents' personal experiences of harassment in everyday life. The questions covered both gender‑ and sexual orientation‑based harassment, as well as sexual harassment. Respondents were asked what kind of harassment they had experienced, where it had taken place, and which parties were responsible. In addition, the survey examined reporting of harassment and satisfaction with the response to reports. Finally, it was examined how harassment and hate speech have affected, for example, the respondents' activities. Respondents were also asked to share their views on how harassment could be prevented and how authorities and organisations could be made more approachable for LGBTQ+ people. Seuraavaksi kartoitettiin sosiaalisen median ja internetin vaikutusta potilaan ja lääkärin tai hoitajan väliseen vuorovaikutukseen sekä hoitosuhteeseen. Vastaajilta kysyttiin esimerkiksi, onko sosiaalisen median tai internetin väärä tieto sairauksista vaarantanut potilasturvallisuutta ja murentaako sosiaalisen median sekä internetin väärä tieto luottamusta lääkäriin/hoitajaan. The data were collected as part of the research project 'Struggling with Ignorance: Negative Expertise and the Erosion of the Finnish Information Society at the Turn of 2020” (NEGATE). First, the respondents were asked how often they follow various social media platforms and other online content privately and professionally, and how often they comment on discussions or initiate discussions on different social media platforms. Next, the impact of social media and the internet on the interaction between patient and physician or nurse, as well as on the care relationship, was examined. For example, the respondents were asked whether misinformation on social media or the internet regarding diseases had endangered patient safety and whether misinformation on social media and the internet undermines trust in physicians/nurses. Subsequently, the respondents were asked, for example, whether they professionally obtain new information from social media, whether they guide participants in social media discussions towards accurate information, and whether they have encountered professional conflicts on social media. Finally, the respondents were asked how they protect their privacy on social media, particularly from the viewpoint of professional identity, and whether the hospital in which they work has provided guidelines on the use of social media. As a new theme, respondents were asked about their attitudes toward artificial intelligence and its applications in society. First, respondents were asked which scientific fields interested them and where they obtained information about science and its development. Respondents were also asked about the future impact of science and research on people's everyday lives, and to evaluate various aspects of the state and quality of science and research in Finland. Next, respondents were asked about their trust in various institutions, including the European Parliament, the church, trade unions, the media, the armed forces, and universities. The respondents were also asked to name a Finnish researcher whom they considered trustworthy. In addition, questions were asked about the development of science and research and the ability of science to solve societal problems. Respondents were also asked about the relation between science and politics. The survey also included various attitudinal statements about science and research. The statements covered, for instance, relationships between religion and science, science funding, alternative medicine, researchers' involvement in politics, use of scientific information in political decision-making, impact of scientific and technological development, climate change, and nutrition. Finally, the respondents' attitudes toward artificial intelligence and its applications, such as self-driving cars or facial recognition in border control, were examined.
